Some Recurring Comments from the Members:

Thoughnone of the following comments are specifically from one member'ssurvey, they are paraphrased based on recurring themes that appeared inthe comments section of the Member Surveys, and are listed in noparticular order:

  • Kitchen should provide healthier choices:
  • Weare currently examining alternative food options for today's hungrycurler; as a starting point, the bar will be offering granola bars andfruit snacks beginning in the 2009-2010 season.
  • Ice is inconsistent/swingy/not-swingy-enough/dirty, etc.:
  • Jasonand his team go to every effort to keep the curling surface asconsistent as possible by constantly monitoring and controlling thebuilding conditions.  Unfortunately, external factors such as theoutside temperature and humidity affect the ice.
  • Fees could be lower:
  • Let's face it: we don't believe that you'll find a member of any league anywhere that would say 'No'to lower fees.  Every year, the Board of Directors carefully examinesthe league fees in an effort to keep the club in good financialposition and meet the needs of the operation of the facility, all whilekeeping curling as affordable as possible.  To do this, the boardapplies for grants, as well as initiates fundraising activities.  Thus, the volunteer efforts by our members for Casino Nights and fundraisers(such as the Cash Calendar) are critical to the success of the club, and in keeping league fees reasonable.
  • Improve the way teams are seeded:
  • Overthe years, we have found that the best way to seed for a 'level playingfield' is to randomly distribute teams in the first round of play -thus seeding 'strong' and 'not-as-strong' teams together in the firstround.  The result of this is that after the first round, teams willfall into a grouping that is a good fit for them going into the rest ofthe season.  Were we to seed teams such that 'strong' teams were in thesame grouping right at the start, this would result in some of themdropping to lower divisions (as they would have fewer points than someteams in other divisions).  As a result, there would be a disparityamong teams in the second round of play, rather than the first. In other words, no matter how you slice it, to have a 'level playingfield' going into a season, some disparity must exist early on in theseason.
  • Improve communication:
  • Thisnew website is but one way in which we are improving communication.  Weare also examing new ideas to enhance club-member interaction.
